Gerd L. Koepe (born 1950) studied chemistry at and received his Diploma in chemistry from the University of Freiburg/Breisgau (Germany). He did post-graduate research at the Max-Planck-Institute for Coal Research (Mülheim (Germany)) in the fields of organometallic chemistry and catalysis from 1979 to 1982. Between 1982 and 1986, he specialized in intellectual property protection and was registered as a German Patent Attorney in 1987 and, after passing the qualifying examination, as a European Patent Attorney in 1989. Since 1987, he is operating a Patent Attorney's Office in Munich.

He has acquired special competence in the prosecution and enforcement of patents (including oppositions and nullity actions) in all fields of chemistry, pharmacy and medicine before the German and European Patent Authorities and Patent Courts as well as in the prosecution and enforcement of national and international Trademarks and, as a European Trademark Attorney since 1996, of Community Trademarks.

From 1992 to 2000, he was member of the Board of the Federal Association of German Patent Attorneys. Since 1996, he is Examiner in the Examination Committee for German Patent Attorneys. Since 1996, he is member of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and of the European Community Trademark Association (ECTA) and is Co-Founder of the CTM Advisory Initiative e. V.
